With the festive season upon us and a blanket of snow still fresh in our memories, it’s no surprise that this month’s photo had to feature a snowy scene. And who better to star than Obi, revelling in the winter wonderland? If he had hands instead of hooves, I have no doubt he’d be busy building snowmen and tossing snowballs!
Thankfully, the snow melted just in time for me to make it to the Horsemanship Showcase – and what an incredible event it was!
Showcase Magic: An Evening to Remember
The evening performance was truly unforgettable, showcasing an impressive lineup of talented acts. Highlights included cutting cows like you’ve never seen, a Singing in the Rain tribute alongside Yellowstone, and thrilling demonstrations of jousting, trick riding, liberty work, and garrocha.

I received so many lovely comments about my photography at the show, but a few images stood out as crowd favourites.
Sean and Eliza
Two of my favourite cowboy hat wearers, Sean and Eliza, captured everyone’s hearts at the show! Eliza’s portrait, with its soft tones and elegant framing, was a standout. Sean Coleman, a renowned trainer and key figure at the showcase, drew attention with his striking image, set against a bold gold background.
The gold was praised for its warmth, “Texas cowboy” vibes, and daringly different look. The black aluminium frame brought out the deep shadows and Apollo’s dark mane, while a white frame for Eliza’s portrait highlighted the soft greys in Quest’s coat.
Gus on the South Downs
“Was this really taken in the UK?” So many people asked this question about the image of Gus riding through the South Downs at golden hour. The dust particles kicked up by his passage glowed in the low sunlight, creating a dreamy, almost ethereal effect.
This photo was so loved that I’m considering offering it as a print for sale—along with Sean’s cowboy portrait! Framed in black with a mount insert, the piece feels radiant, with the golden hues shining even brighter.
Stables
This atmospheric image of horses in darkened stables quickly became a favorite. The moody tone was achieved through the use of off-camera flash, allowing me to emphasize the horses while controlling how the background was lit.
Framed in black aluminium, the piece draws the eye to the deep shadows and enhances the dramatic feel of the scene.
Confi
This image holds a special place in my heart. Confi’s soft expression, gazing at his human, is so touching that it never fails to move me.
The unusual blue background added a contemporary edge, drawing admiration at the showcase. Paired with a pale oak aluminium frame, the piece’s warmth is further enhanced by the terracotta floor tiles, creating a beautifully harmonious finish.
Joe and Sophie
This photo received countless compliments for its golden light, buttercup-filled field, and the emotional connection it captures. Featuring Joe Midgley, another talented trainer at the event, this image radiates joy and warmth.
The light oak frame was the perfect choice, enhancing the natural yellows of the buttercups and adding an organic, earthy feel to the piece.
